Advocacy Plan

To mitigate the ongoing devastation in low-income, immigrant, black and brown communities, we must focus on strengthening place-based coordination and build-out community based nonprofit infrastructure around pandemic resiliency.

Goal

  • To eliminate food insecurity in the Antelope Valley by focusing on building sustainable, equitable, and community-driven food system that ensures every resident has consistent access to nutritious, affordable, and culturally appropriate food.

Objectives

Expand Equitable Food Access

By 2027, advocate for and help secure at least 3 new community-based food access projects (i.e.-grocery stores, mobile markets, food hubs) within high-need neighborhoods in the Antelope Valley, increasing access to affordable, healthy food for at least 10,000 residents.

Improve Transportation and Infrastructure

By 2027, collaborate with transportation planning agencies to implement 2 new or revised public transit routes that directly connect low-income neighborhoods to grocery stores, farmers markets, and health clinics.

Strengthen Local Partnerships

By 2027, enhance participation in the Food Access Network and Regional Recovery Hub by engaging 10-15 organizations (nonprofits, schools, healthcare providers, and local government) to coordinate programs, share data, and align advocacy efforts.

Promote Economic and Racial Equity

By 2027, develop and/or advocate for 1 policy initiative that directly addresses economic and/or racial inequities in food access.

Support Data-Driven Policy Change

By 2027, produce and distribute an annual Antelope Valley Food Access Report and inform equitable policy strategies across all partner agencies.
